May even get another car, depending what I do with this. If I can afford to tune it up a lot, I may get a dirty DERV for a run around and keep this for weekends, tracks, shows.

Oh, and I think I may go round Cadwell as a driver and not a passenger in November. Went last year as a passenger and that was cool jumping in different cars, gonna be even better blasting around myself.

All Grown Up

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

\o/

Had a talk wi the other half earlier, and seeing as I spend all of my time at hers, we’ve decided I’m gonna move in

Never had “my own place” before. Kinda moved out and lived at the girlfriends (with their parents etc), but not like this. Should be cool and interesting.

Decided, the first thing I’m doin in gonna get a phone line installed with “proper” net access here and also/maybe Sky TV (seein as I wont be paying board to the parents anymore). Also, mother has said she’ll buy us a new TV (she doesn’t realise that the minimum for her living room is 37″ (42″ would be ideal) and it HAS to be 1080p

Things have gone quick, but I went out with her about 6 years ago (she ws my 1st “proper” girlfriend ), and we worked together at Morrisons and stayed friends etc. She then went to Liverpool Uni for 3 years, split up with the ex about 6-8 months ago, and we started dating a few months ago and didn’t take long to “catch up on old times” etc. All her family already know me, and have always got on well wi her bro (he’s a year older than us).

Anyway, yeah, things should be cool

Yay! All growed up

London Summary

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

Back now. Got off train at 14:20, was home for about 15:30 (damn sunday bus service).

Gonna upload pictures 2moz. Took about 650 pictures over the course of 2 days (probably more than half was at the motor show)

All in all, the trip was great. Saw a white Veyron in London Center yesterday, and the whole weekend there was a lot of Ferraris around (WTF!?!?) in center of London!

Friday wi dropped stuff off, had a bite to eat, then down to Leicester Square, Trafalger (sp), Big Ben, London Eye and the Westminster Abby and back home (drink en route etc etc)

Saturday we got up early, got to Motor Show for about 10:15, before we knew it it was half 12. Went to St Pauls, Buckingham Palace, Harrods and other places on the way around.

Was a cool weekend. Had to slow down Friday night (other wise I’d have seen it all with hours - I walk fast), so made a “plan” for Saturday. Made a mistake in wearing my Adidas “footsocks” as my feet were killing after the motorshow - then had rest of the stuff to see. SO had to change trainers lol

I came home empty handed, whereas the dog got a damn toy from Harrods

Feet are killing now!!!!

What a Start to the Day

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

Our lass was up at 5am as she was goin to help her mum with a Car Boot sale, and try and get rid of some of her junk, including about 25 handbags (still got more in the “spare/dressing” room.

I then woke up at 8am think “sh1t, i’m late for work”. Pulled jeans on, got t-shirt half way over head, then thought “hold on, it’s sunday, not monday, I start at 11:45″. So went back to bed confused and tierd lol

Then, on the way to work. Driving along the road between Staveley Cop Station and Morrisons Halfway, I saw an accident right in front of me. I’ve been witness to car accidents before, but this was different.

On this road there’s a bridge we go under and under the bridge is a blind, humped. Before the bridge, we slowed for some horses (we being me, a bike and a 205 in front), the bike overtook the 205 chav before the bridge and went on, the 205 then went at stupid speed over the bridge which is only wide enough for 1 car, and you can’t see anything coming. He went that fast, the rear left the ground and i heard a clang when it landed. Feelin pissed off that the bike overtook him, he pressured him, until one of the hardest bends on the road. The bike didn’t lean in enough, went wide, hit a grate and lost the bike from under him. The 205 pulled up, and so did I. He was in a hurry to get gone tho. Think he realised he was driving like a mong.

Luckily the biker landed in the hedge, so had a “soft” cushioning, and got away with a grazed arm and no doubt a badly bruised leg.

Even tho I didn’t “do” much, the biker thanked me for stopping, and it feels like I’ve done my good deed for the day.

The end

Pete Is A Legend!

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

Not felt the need to “Blog” anything for a while, but this has just made me laugh so much.

Background Info:
Pete is a 60-year-old guy at work, who tells it like it is. In the past he’s told customers that if their TV is off, to read their kids a book or take them to the park. He’s said if they can’t pay, why should we give them service, etc etc.
Basically, he’s blunt and straight to the point. We as a team love it, the managers - not so. However, he isn’t breaking any rules.

Set The Scenario:

A customer has called up at about 19:00 requesting loss of service from his TV which went off at 18:00. As a company, we only credit back for more than 24hrs loss of service. To spice things up a little, the TV package that this customer has is FREE. Yes, that’s right, FREE!

So as Pete explains, we only give credit for 24hrs loss. The customer isn’t happy with this. So Pete then goes on to say he doesn’t pay anything for TV. So whether it’s off for an hour, a week or a month, he’s not going to get any credit for a free service.

The customer then requested a disconnection. Pete went through to the disconnection team, to find a long que. He explained this to the customer and adv to call back 2moz when it’s quieter. Customer told Pete to do it. Again, Pete refused so the customer said he’d “go to the papers”. In fact, he went on to say “I’m goin to the Mirror”. Pete’s respone, “oh no, not the mirror *hand slaps forehead”.

Legend. Made my day

NOT THE MIRROR!!!

ChopFolio - Beta :D

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

Right then, just been playing about and couldn’t quite manage EXACTLY what I wanted! I wanted to do a photoshop site using joomla, found the extension…. blah blah blah…. long story short, I’ve used a different method.

The main site is here:

http://spirewebsolutions.co.uk/chopfolio/

The idea is, tutorials, people chops and competitions will be on there. Unfortunately, until I can find a way of restricting users so that they can only post to their section, I will have to upload to your portfolio!

There’s also a forum here:

http://www.spirewebsolutions.co.uk/cf-forum/

This needs building up obviously. It will cover various aspects, not just digital picture editing and cars! Will eventually have camera tips, reviews, hand drawing sections, and much more

So feel free to start using. And if anyone would like to help get the site off the ground, either by plugging it elsewhere, or helping me fill it with content, or even create some useful tutorials, it would be much appreciated.

Not only is it goin to be aimed at photoshopping, i was also thinking of general photography. Now I ain’t no expert in this field, so I was wondering if you fancied helping out, maybe even become a mod!?

Been looking at the fredmiranda site, and I see that they how monthly assignments (similar to how we have monthly chops competitions).

Would like to probably have something similar to that eventually.

Obviously it’s in the early stages at the moment! There are a lot of photoshop site and photography sites out there, but nothing that really combines the two together (maybe there is and i’ve not seen it tongue.gif).

I’m sure us choppers would learn from the photographers how to take good pics so we can source our own images, and likewise, the photographers can learn some skills from the choppers biggrin.gif

And before more people say it’s already done, the main idea was for it to be a for a smalll group of choppers to display their work in their own “professional lookin” portfolio

GTi Spring Fest - Santa Pod

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

Well, I’m not going to write much as I can’t be arsed! But let’s just say, it was amazing!

Spent all day Saturday cleaning the car (9am till 6pm), despite it raining now and then, I kept on going! Was worth it once I had polished and waxed it as it made it shiney and also the rain just beaded off the car :D

Anyway, roll on to sunday. Up at 5 in the A.M.! Got ready, went to bank and fill with petrol to meet the guys I’d be convoying with at 7am. I was there about 20mins early, but, you know….

The drive down was cool. Was me, Sparky (Mk4 Ibiza FR), Sean (Q7) and Cheb (Caddy Van). Didn’t look like much of a convoy, then a Golf GTi and Mk2 Ibiza 16v caught up from somewhere. I reckon sparky wanted to play with the Golf, but it was the Mk2 that played instead. They tagged on to the convoy. Then we met Brummy and a few other who got on from where the M6 meets the M1. Now it was a good convoy, think there was about 10 or so of us.

Off to Tesco. This was the final meeting point just a few miles from the Pod. Loads of other clubs met there as well. We then set off for Tesco. At this point, there must have been 50 or more cars in one huge convoy.

Got to the Pod, qued, and then finally got to the stand. Met some new and old people, all of them a bunch of good people.

Anyway, here’s all the pics:
GTi Srping Fest Pictures

Pick of the bunch:

I know Loops loves this one (Oscar the Pirate)

Here’s a video of the Jet Car! Loudest thing I’ve ever heard.

University Update Part 2

Posted by Mat @ SWS | No Comments

well, time for an update;

After being rejected for Computing (180 UCAS points), and being offered a place on Internet & Business Technologies (160 UCAS points), I was waiting for a response regarding Multimedia Technologies. Sure enough, it came through today! Acceptance! \o/

The course I really wanna do! Chuffed about it. But now I have another decision to make. Stay home, or live on Campus like a “proper” student? I’m in Chesterfield and the uni is Sheff Hallam, so not a massive drive, but whilst I was goin out wi my ex (at DMU), I stayed there a few times, and the atmosphere is amazing!

Any good advice from mature/older students would be great (only 23, but that’s still about 5 years older than most of the newbies)
